About

After graduating from Bucks college in the UK, I've been privileged to have worked at some of the best creative agencies in the world. At these agencies I've been fortunate to have won every major award the industry has to offer including Cannes Golds,  D&ADPencils, One Shows, Campaign Bigs, Eurobests and Best Creative team at Both The Creative Circle and The International Boards Awards and a Chip Shop award (my favourite). Due to the diverse mix of agencies I'm able to tackle any brief with genuine experience.

Over the last 20 years I’ve reinvented tennis, stuck a speaker in Liam Gallaghers big mouth, had my worked banned from
every pub in London, designed Aston Martins, created festivals that fit into a 4x4, broken 3 world records and used facial recognition to shop for underwear.

I see my role as providing a platform for the creative department to produce their best work - giving them space to think and confidence to experiment and grow, and I've been doing this as an ECD for over 10 years.

Aside from advertising, I am proud to be a part of the Creative Mentorship Network - a charitable organisation that helps teenagers from diverse and underprivileged  backgrounds break into the creative industry.

I have also written and illustrated two children's books and written three sitcom pilots for BBC comedy that went no where :(

You can find him most weekends in his garage/studio/cave producing graphic art pieces on giant pieces of cardboard whilst listening to Death Metal. www.buttomtic.art

What people say:

‘As part of my role as Brand Marketing Director at Hertz I helped create and set-up Hertz Engine, an in-housed content and creative agency. Stuart Button was appointed as Creative Director for Hertz Engine and was part of the original team that launched the agency in August 2019.

Stuart led the Creative Team of 12 people with a background in advertising, graphic and motion graphic design. He built the team from the ground, recruiting a strong set of talented designers with no prior experience of the Hertz brands, and very quickly instilled a can-do approach to the team. It was clear the team listened to Stuart, respected him and valued his opinion and this, in turn, delivered true value to the Hertz brands and quality output across the board.

Stuart consistently delivered strong and engaging creative that both met and exceeded the brief – for both BAU and campaign activity and covering the EMEA region. He takes a consultative approach, interrogating the brief and its objectives to ensure that the output hits the brief squarely on the head. He is not afraid to challenge, but this was never confrontational and if he needed to remain faithful to the brief there was never any pushback. The bottom line is that his creative resonated, performed and moved the brand’s identity along, keeping it fresh and delivering cut-through.

I have nothing but high praise for Stuart and would not hesitate in recommending him for a similar role. Talented, bright and creative and a good leader, Stuart made a difference to the brand in a short period of time. He’s also a good laugh, which is important and goes a long way.'

Mark Wileman - Brand Marketing Director - Hertz

Stuart is an exceptionally talented creative, both in the quality of his lateral ideas and in his attention to detail. He has a real love of integrated thinking, which, coupled with the invaluable experience he has gained in TV, radio and print  makes him a very rounded creative."

Gary Sharpen - Creator of the Shelf, ECD Saatchi Saatchi.

"A true leftfield thinker. He approaches every brief with maturity and an completely open mind to the media. His book is a bizarre treasure trove of creative thinking."

Charles Inge - CHI&Partners

"Stu is a top conceptual thinker, good team leader and a very hard worker. When he was at iris he helped to develop Philips into a mutli-million pound account, and an award winner to boot. He forged good relationships with clients and fostered great loyalty from his team. He's happy to turn his hand to any kind of brief and approaches every opportunity, no matter how small, with equal enthusiasm. He also works well at speed and can produce great work in no time. Although I don't think he'll thank me for telling you that."

Shaun Macilrath - Global CCO  - Iris

"Stuart was the Creative Director on Philips at iris for 2 years whilst I ran the account. During this time we grew the account from 10th to 2nd largest in the agency and won significant amounts of business from the then incumbent integrated agency DDB.  This wouldn't have been possible without Stu's creative leadership both from an conceptual and from a directional point of view.  He was a true partner on the business and his willingness to put in the time, spot a great idea (and a proactive one) stood us in great stead and enabled us to build up huge amounts of trust in Philips for exceptional delivery which spread throughout the business rapidly. Personally I loved working with Stu, he's a grown up and is able to back himself and make sound/well reasoned arguments for his work, but will listen to what others have to say.  i would happily work with him again if the chance arose. "

Stefan Zoltowski - Managing Partner - Iris

“Stuart makes things happen! He is an extremely talented creative, forward thinking and incredibly passionate about his craft. He has an amazing work ethic, high integrity and you rarely see him without a smile! One of his greatest strengths is guiding strategy to help teams deliver more focused, interesting work. Never afraid to push the boundaries and always up for a challenge. Top man.”

Mark Sibborn – Managing Director - Lick

"I worked together with Stuart  when he had the role of ACD while I worked as a junior creative.

I don’t think I could’ve wished for a better mentor than Stu. He always had time to discuss ideas and executions. But not only did he help us, those who were less experienced than him, he also trusted us with building on his own work. I feel that with Stuart as a CD I didn’t need anyone to hold my hand, but was always a safety net to fall back on.

During my time I think I grew a lot as a creative, and a big reason for that was thanks to Stuart. He was always able to explain why one idea or execution was better and never had to pull out a “boss card” to close a discussion. Although you can’t be happy with having your ideas shut down, you were always given good reasons and explanations why. Thank you Stuart, you taught me more about advertising than anyone else."

Jonas Linder - Creative

"Stuart Button is without a shadow of a doubt the best creative director I have ever the pleasuring of working with. He didn't make us work hard - he inspired us to work harder. He didn't berate us for not knowing the answer - he worked with us to find it. He wasn't just our boss - he was, and still is, a mate, a great guy and the epitome of the getting right balance in work and life.  I would love to have him as my CD again and hopefully one day I will."
